One of the most luxurious yet traditional properties in Edinburgh, the Scotsman Hotel is housed in the former offices of The Scotsman newspaper, which inhabited the building for nearly a century. The lobby is appointed in a classical style, the doorman and concierge ensuring a warm welcome. Throughout the building you will find over 860 pieces of original art ranging from old oil paintings to modern works. The hotel is non smoking throughout.

Though the 69 guestrooms vary in size, the common theme running through them is the use of genuine Scottish Estate tweeds as part of the interior design and complementing the handmade beds. All the rooms are impeccably maintained, as are the en suite bathrooms which feature exclusive toiletries. Guests can expect fresh green apples in their room on arrival along with the usual set of facilities including flat screen television, mini bar and a safe large enough for a laptop. A nice feature is the privacy hatch for room service deliveries ensuring that you don't have to get out of bed to accept your order! Those not used to the Scottish weather will appreciate the free use of golf umbrellas during their stay.

The hotel’s North Bridge Brasserie & Bar occupies The Scotsman newspaper’s former marble reception hall and access to it is through the building’s original main door. The hotel also boasts excellent leisure facilities (The Cow Shed) in the form of a 16 metre stainless steel swimming pool and a huge air-conditioned gym, as well as sauna and steam rooms, relaxation area, spa treatment rooms, an aerobic studio and a small bar. Guests arriving by train may use the Market Street entrance and take the lift to the lobby.
