Very nice apartment. Great location. Bit of a trek down a hill to get to the apartment - tough if you have a lot of luggage. Also, the apartment is very noisy - squeeky floors and apparantly is on the late night tour - heard tour guides talking right outside the window until midnight.

We reserved a twin bedded room and none was available! We were not informed before arrival. Staff were not too helpful & we felt that we were being blamed. We were told that we had to go to Potterrow for a flat. This was 1 flat amongst private student flats. The staircases were filthy and smelled of cooking fat. The flat was ok inside but no heating was on and we had no instructions as to how to make it work. There was no dishwasher. It was not of a high enough standard for the price paid. There was quite a lot of noise at night. The area was not nice. There was a square at the back which was full of drunks. It was quite a slum area we felt.

A really minor quibble - there was no microwave which is odd given how well equipped the apartment was in every other respect. It was a beautiful, comfortable and, in mid-February, warm apartment in an excellent location.

We arrived on a Sunday evening and weren't sure about finding somewhere close to eat out with kids who are vegetarian. It is no problem if you explore nearby Victoria Street and Grassmarket as well as the Royal Mile itself. There's lots of choice.

We were not happy to book a hotel that was advertised as central and near the castle. To in fact find that it was a good 15 mins walk and in a run down part of town. The apartment was no way near the high standard of the rooms shown on the website. Whilst we acknowledge that there may be a slight variation the standard was much lower than expected. Very disappointed.
